EL SER ETOLÓGICO - Damián Suárez
MAY 2019
Damián Suárez presents in this exhibition the latest work he has developed with two-dimensional work made with thread pressed on wood, a technique that has characterized him throughout his career. The exhibition builds an atmospheric space of light and color, providing the viewer with endless possibilities to relate to the work.
Damián Suárez's search lies in retaking the recurring systems of symmetry, deconfiguring them, and incorporating new schemes through the reconstruction of forms by combining threads of different colors and qualities. It encodes a discourse in which the rigor of symmetry, which had kept him surrounded during the development of his exploration, was altered in a game of balance and harmony between colors and shapes.
From this principle, The ethological being arises from research work on the behavior of the being and its relationship with its environment. The work is formulated to activate the viewer's sensitivity to relate to the image through the dynamism of colors, brightness, textures, and shapes. The awakening of the senses is made possible thanks to the different perspectives in which it is possible to approach the work. The incidence of light and the visual orientation modify the vibration of the image. This provides endless possibilities for interaction between the work and the viewer, which in itself is a representation of Op-art. Damián Suárez proposes that there be a relationship between the viewer and his environment through the senses. The configuration of the space, the selection of the work, and the realization of it are specifically elaborated to create an environment in which the observer becomes a participant in a sensory experience and enables new relationships between the being and everything outside of it.
