KIND OF BLUE, KIND OF BLACK - Nicolás Guzmán

FEBRUARY 2024

“Kind of blue, kind of black” is an investigation into the relationship between the colors blue and black as part of our visual and emotional language. Through the blending and juxtaposition of these two fundamental parts of the artistic palette, multidisciplinary artist Nicolás Guzmán combines the figurative and the surreal. In the form of paintings, ceramic sculptures, and video, his installation abstracts the everyday into a minimalist form that transforms color and technique from modes of process into the subject of the works. As viewers encounter flowers, people, and Guzmán’s gestural mark-making, he asks each of us to join him on an investigation of the world of blue and black he has devised.
