LEICA STORE
APRIL 2024
Leica Gallery Mexico City is proud to present the exhibition "Miguel Milló: From the same clay". The exhibition features a selection of thirteen large format photographs, including unpublished material produced exclusively for this collaboration with Leica, and a monumental photo-mosaic inspired by one of his iconic photographs. The exhibition reflects Milló's interest in blurring the line between the pictorial and the performative, using photography as the medium that materializes his actions.
This exhibition is held in partnership with CAM Galería, showcasing Leica Gallery Mexico City's intention to generate a dialogue with the art scene in Mexico City.
Miguel Milló, a native of Sonora, Mexico, is a prolific artist who constantly creates a dialogue between creativity and technique. Since the beginning of his career, the human figure has served as the vehicle of expression, with the body serving as a living canvas that is intervened with elements of nature such as mud, pigments, clays, flowers, fruits, and seeds that make up ephemeral compositions.
In addition to producing photographic prints in traditional and non-conventional media, Milló has ventured into vitreous mosaic, with which he makes a reinterpretation of this ancient technique that had its heyday in ancient Byzantium. The iconography of Miguel Milló is contemporary, his characters move between the profane and the ethereal, so observing his work is a journey to the volume, texture, color, and depth of art in constant movement.
Miguel Milló's artistic and conceptual proposal is a constant search for equality and universality. Hence his interest in ancient cultures and his desire to connect them through his artistic creation with the present. There is in him a special interest and sensitivity for social actions, so in various initiatives of foundations and institutions that promote public health and women's empowerment, to cites a couple of examples. The exhibition is presented within the framework of the annual Flower Festival that takes place on Avenida Presidente Masaryk. The theme for the festival this year is "The Garden of Amazing Beings". This theme generates an organic and natural dialogue with Milló's work that can be appreciated at Leica Gallery Mexico City, a new reference space for photography and art in Mexico City.
